CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

We have designed and made your piece with the idea that it will be passed down and treasured from one pair of hands to another. But like all things, even though the materials it is made of are some of the hardest in the world; it will need some tender loving care so that it can look its best. For that we have a few tips.

CLEANING YOUR JEWEL

Soft toothbrush, fairy liquid and warm water
Over time, dirt can build up particularly underneath settings or around stones which can make your gemstones appear a little lack lustre. To clean at home, place some warm water in a bowl with a dash of gentle soap (fairy liquid is perfect) and soak your piece for about 20-30 minutes.
We recommend buying a soft toothbrush specifically for your jewellery and gently rinsing it with warm water (make sure the drain is covered or use a bowl of fresh water) and gently brush your ring with the toothbrush to remove the grime. Repeat as necessary. Afterwards dry your ring and use a jewellery polishing cloth get a sparkling finish.

Build-up of dirt, consider dropping it into us
If a lot of grime that has built up over time and hardened it might be best to bring the ring to us, and we can help you get your piece professionally cleaned, so that it glistens as it did when you first saw it in its box.

WHEN TO TAKE YOUR JEWEL OFF?

Take off when doing any activity that might knock or rub it
We get it, wearing your jewel can become second nature, it is easy not to take it off. However, even though gemstones are hard, unfortunately they are not indestructible. We therefore recommend that you take it off before doing any task that might knock or rub it e.g going to the gym or gardening.

Hot and cold temperatures can change the size of your fingers
We recommend that you take your ring off when your body comes into contact with water, showering, swimming etc.
Cold water can “shrink” your finger making it easier for your ring to slip off. Whilst products used in the shower like exfoliators can damage the stones surface.

STORING YOUR JEWEL

Wrap in Tissue
When it comes to storage, jewellery’s worst enemy is other jewellery. Keep your items separate by wrapping them in tissue or cloth when travelling, this includes separating each earring in a pair – metal rubbing against metal can cause it to marks.

Save the best to last
It’s common to want to keep your ring on when you’re getting ready. However, moisturisers, lotions, cosmetics, hairspray, and perfumes all cause a build-up of grime which can diminish the brilliance and natural sheen of your gemstones. We suggest that you, save the best to last and put on your jewel as your final touch.
